Christian Science Nurses Education
Support healing in a practical way
Sunrise Haven offers complete and thorough education for Christian Science nurses based on the requirements stated in the Manual of the Mother Church: The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts:
“Christian Science Nurse. A member of The Mother Church who represents himself or herself as a Christian Science nurse shall be one who has a demonstrable knowledge of Christian Science practice, who thoroughly understands the practical wisdom necessary in a sick room, and who can take proper care of the sick. The cards of such persons may be inserted in The Christian Science Journal under rules established by the publishers.”
– Manual of The Mother Church, Article VIII, Sect. 31, p. 4
Our education program prepares individuals to become listed in The Christian Science Journal.
Graduates of Sunrise Haven’s Christian Science nurses education program might become Christian Science nurses in a Christian Science nursing facility, at a summer camp or school, or work as private duty Christian Science nurses, providing care and oversight in the home.
About our Education Program
In 2015, Sunrise Haven adopted the curriculum from Le Verger, a Christian Science nursing facility in Rolle, Switzerland. Our education program is accredited by The Commission for Accreditation of Christian Science Nursing Organization/Facilities (“The Commission”).
Sunrise Haven’s accredited program provides flexible, one-on-one education. Christian Science nurses are taught to work in any setting. Education is expanded beyond working in a specific facility or in the home.
Christian Science Nurses Education
A prerequisite to applying to the Sunrise Haven Education Program is completion of The Spiritual Dimension of Care seminar. To learn more, please call 253-813-2096 to speak with the Director of Christian Science Nurses Education.
Education is divided into four levels – Introductory, Basic, Intermediate, Advanced – and two segments: classroom instruction and mentoring. Classroom instruction for each level lasts approximately two weeks. A shoulder-to-shoulder mentoring period takes place after each class and lasts as long as necessary to establish confidence and competence.
Classes firmly establish the spiritual basis for care through the study of the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy. The Socratic method is used – a discussion between the student and instructor, based on asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and illuminate ideas.
Christian Science Nursing Level I
Introductory
This course consists of one week of classroom study addressing principles, ethics, and practical Christian Science nursing skills in relation to caring for a patient when minimal assistance with care is needed. A flexible mentoring period of Christian Science nursing experience under the guidance of a mentor is available.
Christian Science Nursing Level II

Christian Science Nursing Level III
Intermediate
This course consists of two weeks of one-to-one classroom instruction, practical skills, and Christian Science nursing experience in real Christian Science nursing situations.
