In January 2001, Sunrise Haven moved to its new location on a 1.6-acre parcel of land in a quiet, residential neighborhood near the top of Kent's "east hill." About 40 minutes from downtown Seattle and 20 minutes from Seattle-Tacoma Airport, our facility is easily accessible from major highways and public transportation. Directions

Our Building

Sunrise Haven's building features a unique, contemporary blending of rural American and Asian characteristics that fits unobtrusively with the homes that surround it. The front porch reaches out to provide a welcoming image to the neighbors and those passing by.

Sunrise Haven is a Washington non-profit corporation, operating in compliance with applicable State laws pertaining to nursing homes. It is exempt from State laws and regulations where they conflict with the theology and practice of Christian Science.

The Commission for Accreditation of Christian Science Nursing Organizations/Facilities, Inc., an independent, nationally recognized body that inspects and accredits Christian Science nursing organizations, provides accreditation to Sunrise Haven.

A board of trustees governs Sunrise Haven in accordance with the accreditation standards set by the Commission for Accreditation, and in compliance with Federal, State, and local laws.

The executive director has primary responsibility for the day-to-day operations of Sunrise Haven, while the director of Christian Science nursing and director of Christian Science nurses training have primary responsibility for Christian Science nursing services and Christian Science nurses training, respectively.

Dedicated individuals in the office, kitchen, housekeeping, and maintenance departments thoughtfully and actively support the nursing activity.

The Church Manual bylaw titled "Christian Science Nurse" sets the standard for Christian Science nursing. It and the Sunrise Haven Mission Statement are the bases from which trustees, managers, and staff evaluate Sunrise Haven's capacity and effectiveness in providing its services. Every two years, Sunrise Haven conducts its own Self-Inspection.

The Commission for Accreditation visits Sunrise Haven regularly to conduct reviews with the purpose of maintaining a high organizational standard and Medicare requirements. The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services performs an annual inspection of Sunrise Haven. Other regular inspections include those by the State Fire Marshall, our insurance company, and Federal Medicare representatives.

Cherishing and nurturing the mutual objectives of service and support, Sunrise Haven reaches out to dialogue with individuals and groups in its community about its services, its progress, and its needs.

Sunrise Haven Representatives are Christian Science branch church or society members who volunteer to serve as a liaison between their members and Sunrise Haven administration. They share Sunrise Haven's purpose, services, and activities through brief reports at church business meetings and in newsletters.

Group Meetings give us an opportunity to talk face-to-face with members of Christian Science churches, societies, and college organizations.

To inquire about or to arrange a visit to your church by a team that includes a trustee and a Sunrise Haven staff member, please call or email our executive director.

Newsletters provide continuing updates about Sunrise Haven services and programs, share encouraging healings had by patients and staff, present inspirational articles written by staff and volunteers, give new developments with Medicare and other regulatory agencies, and highlight our needs, including our Wish List.

Funding appeals keep our field apprised of our financial status and funding needs, with continuing updates on the variety of ways one can give to Sunrise Haven.

Annual Meeting, held in March or April each year, provides an opportunity for the entire Sunrise Haven family-trustees, staff, volunteers, church members, former patients and guests, donors, and all in the field-to gather for reports of progress, an exchange of ideas, and ongoing opportunities for development.

If you would like to be on our mailing list, please call or email our executive director.

Sunrise Haven's beginnings trace back to the early 1940's when local church members founded two Christian Science care facilities, one in Seattle and one in Puyallup. To view or download (in pdf format) our "History of Sunrise Haven," click here.
